If you're a barbecue enthusiast living in Austin, Texas, you must have heard of Valentina's. This food truck serves up some of the most delectable, finger-licking good BBQ in all of South Austin. From their succulent brisket tacos to their savory pulled pork sandwiches, Valentina's has something to satisfy every taste bud. But what sets this joint apart from other BBQ places in the city is its handmade tortillas and fresh salsas that add a new level of taste to every bite.
Long Waits Are a Thing of the Past
The only downside to dining at Valentina's was the long lines that greeted customers at the outdoor food truck. Fortunately, those long waits are soon to be a thing of the past. Pitmaster Vidal and his team are moving into a spacious brick-and-mortar spot in Buda's charming historic downtown, just fifteen or so minutes away. This means that you no longer have to brave the elements while waiting to savor their delicious BBQ.
The Best Way to Enjoy Valentina's BBQ
Valentina's BBQ is available in a taco, on a sandwich, or by the pound. If you're ordering a taco, the brisket comes chopped unless specified. I suggest asking for sliced instead. They don't skimp on the meat, so you can sneak a slice off for a pre-taco snack. After a bite of the smoky and lusciously moist brisket, you might feel compelled to order it by the pound so nothing gets between you and the brisket. Fear not, bulk meat orders come with tortillas and homemade salsa in case you change your mind mid-pound.
While they offer their own barbecue sauce, I would stick with the excellent salsas. They work better with the meat, and provide just enough heat. From the habanero salsa to the serrano salsa, each one of them adds a new level of taste to the BBQ.
The Building Blocks of Valentina’s BBQ
Brisket, smoked chicken, pulled pork, serrano salsa, refried beans. These are the building blocks of Valentina's BBQ, but it's the way Miguel Vidal uses those bricks that has made his trailer such a smashing success and brought raves from the likes of barbecue wizard Aaron Franklin. Vidal blends his family's Texas and Mexican heritage for a jiggly, smoky and sweet brisket sandwich, a smoked chicken sandwich brightened by citrusy guacamole, and carnitas tacos ablaze with habanero salsa.
The Real Deal Holyfield Breakfast Taco
If you're looking for something to keep you full until dinner, then you have to try the Real Deal Holyfield breakfast taco. It's a gargantuan taco stuffed with refried beans, fried egg, potato, and brisket. The flavors of each ingredient blend perfectly, creating a delicious and hearty breakfast.
The Pitmaster behind Valentina’s BBQ
On my first visit to Valentina's, I was blown away by how fantastic the food tasted. The meat was so juicy and smoky that when I wrapped it up tight and took a bite, it tasted like a pork and cilantro sausage in a tortilla casing. I knew I had to find the genius behind the pit, and that's how I met Miguel Vidal. He and partner Michael Lerner opened the trailer earlier this year, and Vidal says the menu comes straight from San Antonio where he grew up, as did the choice for mesquite. That mesquite smoke is a constant perfume around the trailer since the smokers always seem to be fired up, and Vidal has found a way to temper that smokiness in the meat.
So, you're looking for some of the best barbecue in South Austin? Well, look no further than Valentina's. This joint has been serving up some of the tastiest and tenderest smoked meats for years now, and it's no wonder they've become a staple in the local food scene.
But let's be real here, the real star of the show at Valentina's are the handmade tortillas. I mean, seriously, have you ever tasted a tortilla so divine? It's like each one was hand-crafted by an angel and sprinkled with magical fairy dust. And don't even get me started on the fresh salsas that accompany each dish. It's like they took the freshest ingredients straight from the garden and made salsa right in front of your eyes.
But let's talk about the Real Deal Holyfield breakfast taco for a second. This thing is a miracle of modern food engineering. It's like they took all the best breakfast ingredients, added some of the best brisket you'll ever taste, and wrapped it all up in a warm, soft tortilla. It's the kind of breakfast that will keep you full until dinner, and have you craving more the very next day.
Now, I know what you're thinking. “But wait, won't I have to stand in line for hours just to get a taste of this amazing food?” Well, fear not my hungry friend, because Valentina's is opening up a new brick-and-mortar location in Buda's charming historic downtown. That means you can enjoy all of their mouth-watering food without having to brave the harsh elements of the great outdoors.
And if you're worried about making the trek all the way down to Buda, don't fret. Valentina's also has an outpost at Q2 Stadium, home of Austin's new professional soccer team. That means you can get your barbecue fix while enjoying some live sports action. It's a win-win situation if you ask me.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your friends, grab your family, and head on down to Valentina's for some of the best barbecue and handmade tortillas you'll ever taste. And when you're done, don't forget to pick up a jar of their homemade salsa to take home with you.
In conclusion, Valentina's is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for amazing barbecue and handmade tortillas in South Austin. Whether you're a local or just passing through, you won't regret stopping by and trying out their menu. And with the new brick-and-mortar location opening up soon, there's no excuse not to give them a try. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and taste the magic for yourself.

What an incredible meal! Even went big and snagged a beef rub. Everything was perfectly cooked with a great smoke flavor. Tried a handful of sides, both tacos and the chopped brisket sandwich. I can't wait to go back. Line took about 20 minutes in total.

We were ready to try some new BBQ. I had just written a blog post about Austin BBQ, and realized that we had not yet tried Valentina's!
What I didn't realize that this is a food truck service, which was entirely okay. It was just before noon on a Saturday, (July 9) and there was a line, but we got there early enough before the lunch rush. There's an area in the shade of the building next to the food truck, which made waiting somewhat easier in the heat. On the other side of the same building is an enclosed seating area; there are fans, and not necessarily uncomfortable. There is also a covered outside area to sit and eat.
Now about the food: they have “Tex” (sandwich) items and “Mex” (taco) items. (See my pic of the menu) I got the brisket tacos which were quite good – two in an order and filling. The Hubs tried the Chopped Brisket sandwich, to which he gave a thumbs up. I saw several patrons with the chips and queso, so I assume that is a popular favorite.
To keep in mind: The only restrooms are portable toilets in the back of the building, but they do provide a place to wash hands. Also, visiting for an early lunch is probably ideal, so the wait is somewhat shorter in the heat, especially since this is really an outdoor restaurant.

This place single handedly changed my opinion of Tex Mex food. Get here as soon as they open because the line to order and wait after ordering can be 2+ hours long! It’s worth the wait. I would recommend looking at their daily menu for their unique menu items of the day and getting a classic brisket tacos. The sides are great as well, highly recommended the corn.

My son received skates for Christmas, and we went here for the first time. When we called to check hours, the customer service was great. We arrived to find the place was staffed by young adults who were professional, VERY engaging with kids and adults, and passionate about skating. The rink is a converted warehouse, but you can't really tell once you're inside. The review loses a star because the floor is rough, which for new skaters might provide better grip and less slipping/falling? Otherwise the vibe was awesome. Staff took time to talk skate brands with us. We will be back soon and often!

Went during the 18 and up hours (10pm-2am), had a lot more fun than I thought I would. It was a 80s theme and song requests were allowed but it was fun learning and then just roller skating. The place definitely is old but definitely worth going to for a fun night and partial leg workout

Tammi did my bridal hair and Mayra my bridal make up for my wedding around thanksgiving of 2022. Tammi was always prompt in her communication and clarifying steps in the booking process. I told Tammi it was important to me to use my natural waves in the hairstyle, and showed pictures for inspiration. When I went into her studio for a trial session, she made me feel like I had the best hair in the world, and that I was one of the most beautiful women she’d ever seen or worked with. Every single woman deserves to feel like that, especially around their wedding day. I showed Mayra photos for inspiration for bridal makeup and she also helped bring my vision into a reality. I particularly enjoyed just chatting with her, about our lives and interests, throughout the appointment. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend Divine Weddings!

A WONDERFUL experience. Tammie Garza is a hair artist, not just a stylist. She was able to style my hair to fit my face and style perfectly. And Mayra did the same with my makeup. They both made me feel and look amazing for my wedding (and I am 67 years old). I HIGHLY recommend this team and I will be back. I had SO much fun just being with them as well.

OMG! Heard about this truck from a friend and stopped on a whim – snow cones have never been my thing but consider me a convert! These are light and fluffy somehow like actual snow, not crazy sweet, amazing flavor selections, combos, & real fruit (and other) mix-ins! The wedding delight was divine – loaded with fresh strawberries and cream, can't get over how much I enjoyed it. Hope this truck sticks around because there are many I want to try! Do yourself a favor, bring a date, bring your friend, bring your kid, bring yourself!

When I became a gym nomad a few months ago I was skeptical that I would be able to find a gym community I liked as much as my previous one. I was wrong. CrossFit SoChac is top notch. The coaching is fantastic, and I get constant pointers and feedback on form and technique. The coaches are great about pushing for more out of you, but always in a safe manner. They’re also excellent at making sure class is moving and getting us out on time, something I greatly appreciate. There’s tons of class times that should work for your schedule (I’m particularly partial to the 8:15).
The community is excellent, with all of the members being friendly, supportive and welcoming. Whether you’re the first one finishing a workout or the last, everyone is here for you. I’m very happy with my new gym home.

The coaches and community at this gym are so welcoming and friendly. The coaches do an excellent job of paying attention to each person in the class and not only explaining every portion of the workout but personally assists you at your workout level. The care, knowledge and details are what I feel really sets them apart. If you ever thought about wanting to try CrossFit but felt intimidated to start, this is the gym for you! You will be comfortable from day one.

I truly can't say enough wonderful things about this gym, would recommend to anyone.

The worst ever customer service and supervisor experience. It was horrible from the beginning and decided to not have them work on my vehicle.
Supervisor was Completely unorganized and stated they did not receive claim estimate even though it was confirmed days before. The supervisor stated that they were not a Mercedes accredited collision center and that being an in-network collision center with Progressive is not good. That being an in-network collision center only gets the work done fast but the work would still look like it needed to be repaired. Did not offer or mention any confidence that they could do the minor body work and replace a window and broken window motors. I would never recommend to ever use Classic Collision off Menchaca.

FOREWARNING–I would not recommend this body shop at all; If this is the quality that AMM provides that is not acceptable throughout the Austin, TX region. My insurance provider Geico is partnered with AMM Collision and recommended it to me since of lifetime warranty. My car had some dents and paint work which needed to be done and they had more than enough time to handle all of that 2 weeks (8-9 business days). I noted as part of the collision there was a newfound noise with internal buzzing and it was documented before I went ahead and left my vehicle to them to work on. I did a test drive with my auto-adjuster and tried to point it out; he reassured me the shop will take a look.
The shop owner reassured me about the process and let me know on the 8th or 9th day before they give it back they do a “quality assurance” check for the work on the car.
8-9 days after, I go and pick my car up during work hours because they are only open 7:30AM-5:30PM on weekdays and I had to work out a deal with my auto adjuster and literally tell them to please let me pick up after work hours (1st problem). They are not flexible and I literally had to beg them to be more accommodating since of traffic. 2nd issue I noticed that there was a newfound rattling exterior noise in addition to the internal buzzing as well as my rear passenger door not opening. I went and contacted the auto-adjuster whom contacted the shop owner to get in touch with me about it. Turned out there was a child safety lock which was not there before. This could be a safety hazard as I was not aware and if I had a rear passenger and we got hit again and the car flipped over my rear passenger could die and they would be sued. It got fixed because I had a phone call with the shop owner and looked up instructions myself to fix the door to get it to open from the inside out.Now lets get to the external rattling–So when I picked up my car and let them know there was some weird rattling, which I didn't know what it was at the time, Geico and the shop owner told me to come in between 7:30AM-5:30PM, which are working hours for me, since the shop owner needs to get back home to New Braunfels and could not stay later and the latest would be 6PM at most. That's really unacceptable to make a customer do that especially since traffic can get bad here and secondly this is not a paint issue we are talking about that could wait. It could have been an engine or something worse. It affects the mechanical functioning and driving of the car. The more acceptable answer would have been we will take care of it as soon as possible since safety is important. Fortunately enough, I did a test drive and got there around 4:30PM on a Thursday and did a test drive with both the shop owner and my auto-adjuster. The shop owner tried taking some rocks out and when that didn't work he denied hearing anything. Please keep in mind the external rattling was new and it was not there pre-collision or after collision or even up to the moment of just when I was turning my car over to the shop. My auto-adjuster did a test drive and heard the rattle. Finally, it got taken to Toyota AutoNation where a screw was found in the rear tire of the side they had worked on. When that happened, since this was discovered the next day, I was left without a vehicle and my only option was to open up another rental claim. That in itself was really ridiculous to ask the customer to do this. Plus it did not help since I felt berated when I went and did the test drive with the shop owner, as he tried to convince me the unsafe vehicle was safe to drive and gave me I have over X amount of experience rant. If I had waited longer, my tires could have blown out on I-35. This whole duration with Toyota AutoNation took about a week with no status updates; I called, gave my VIN number, and tracked down every detail from Toyota to get updates. I worked out the Ubers and Lyfts by calling into Geico so many times until a billing rep gave me the number to two supervisors above my auto-adjuster and the body shop. Nightmare situation.

So not a bad pizza spot on the super south side. Pizza was good, service was good, and they have a pretty large space. Inside and outside areas, beer, full bar, bottle beer, and contain drinks. Service was good and they have an arcade area.
3 stars for the draft not working, the ice in the bottled beer bucket was melting and most of the beers were not that cold, arcade area is hot, arcade coin machine is broken, and it was noticeable that they don't clean the parm/flake shakers (I'll leave it at that)

I've been coming here for years and the quality of meat is beyond compare. While bigger stores are ok with selling meat past it's prime, Johnny G's will only sell it if it's fresh. That means still red and vibrant not brownish and dull. I have actually been refused to buy a particular cut if the owner says to isn't fit to be sold. The service here is as quality as the meat, I love this place.
